Day 1 -San Diego to Alpine

38 miles today
38 miles trip total
9.4 mph average
2,280’ climbing
FF (Fatigue Factor) 8
MP (Motivational Partner) -Bob DeVita - a colleague who helped start the Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative, and introduced me to the mantra “Adjust, Adapt, Prevail”

Well, the adventure begins!  As you can see in the picture, we started out with a day of rain so I put on my full rain suit.  It was comfortable & I thought I was staying dry, but by the end of the day everything I was wearing was soaked.

Here I am dipping the rear wheel in the Pacific Ocean to begin the journey

We have 3 countries represented - Germany, USA, Canada

Bubba says if you make it for the 1st two days, you will make it to St Augustine.  That is because we spend 2 days climbing the mountains from the Pacific Ocean.  There were 2 big challenge hills today & I’m happy to report that I pedaled every bit of them.  I received some great support from Joanne, my daughter Laurie & grandson Luka.  Lots of scenic rock formations to see, but the rain kept me from wanting to stop & take pictures.

Have a nice hotel room tonight. Forecast is for more rain tomorrow 😩

WDYLT (What Did You Learn Today) - ILT (I learned that) the physical training that I did in preparation for this journey appears to have been enough. Guess I’ll know for sure tomorrow.
